Honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Events & Activities

Each year we honor and recognize the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the third Monday in January. This year's events look different due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, but we remain dedicated to helping educate our students about the importance of the civil rights movement and its leaders.

Check out the upcoming virtual events and activities below to honor MLK Day with your family.

5th Avenue Theatre & KSD High School Student Annual Rally Went Virtual This Year

For the fifth year, high school students from across Kent School District came together to present a virtual MLK Day Rally in partnership with The 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle. This rally was presented through a Microsoft Teams Live Event to all high school students and staff on January 14 and 15.

While this recording does not allow for live engagement like the live events, it does have powerful lessons from Dr. King and our youth about what we can do to address issues of racial equity. Enjoy the recording and we can't wait to see you in person in 2022!

Virtual School Assemblies

Many of our schools are organizing virtual assemblies to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King, please check your school's calendar or ask your student's teacher for more information.
