2022 Graduation Recap
The Kent School District Class of 2022 has graduated! In ceremonies during the past two weeks, 1722 students took center stage to receive their diplomas and congratulations from the Kent School District Board of Directors, Superintendent Israel Vela, administrators, faculty, staff, and proud families and friends.
Graduation ceremonies began Thursday, June 9, with Kent Laboratory Academy (KLA) students at the Kent-Meridian Gym. KLA students brought in their annual tradition of ringing their graduation bell loud and proud! Next, on Saturday, June 11, ShoWare was buzzing for the first in-person graduation since June 2019. Kent-Meridian, iGrad, Kentlake, Kentridge, and Kentwood students and families filled into ShoWare to celebrate with loud cheers and appreciation. Lastly, The Outreach Program (TOP) finished the graduation festivities with their ceremony at the Kent-Meridian Performing Arts Center on Thursday, June 16.
This year, over 70% of graduates indicated they would attend post-high school education or training. Additionally, graduates in the Class of 2022 earned more than $10,000,000 in scholarship money. This class experienced most of their high school journey amid the COVID-19 Pandemic, finishing off their senior year in person and finally walking across the stage to receive their diploma; they have been through so much and have continued to overcome throughout their high school journey. This is an accomplishment that will be felt by these graduates and their families for the rest of their lives.
