Kindergarten Early Entry (KEE)
Children must be five years old by August 31 to be eligible to enroll in kindergarten; however, if your child’s birth date is between September 1 and October 31, the Kent School District offers a fee-based assessment to determine if children demonstrate the advanced pre-academic, social, and emotional readiness necessary for kindergarten success in Kent.
The Kent School District is no longer accepting 2019-2020 Kindergarten Early Learning Entry applications.
Applications for 2020-2021 will be available in spring 2020.
An assessment date and time will be assigned once a completed application is submitted and the fee is paid.
The assessment includes measures of school readiness in the areas of mental ability, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, visual discrimination, auditory discrimination, and emotional/social development. During the assessment, students participate in a group classroom observation with kindergarten teachers to assess for social-emotional readiness and one-on-one pre-academic testing with a Kent School District school psychologist.
Assessments will be held on two days in June.
There are no alternate testing dates, so children must be available on the reserved testing dates.
- Families must provide proof of an address within the Kent School District Boundaries for the student to participate in Kent’s kindergarten early entry assessment process.
- Students are qualified to attend their boundary school only.
- Transfer requests can be made after the assessment is complete and qualifying decisions have been made.
- Interpreter and translation services are available upon request for assistance with completing the application and for the child’s assessment day. Please call (253) 373-7600 for assistance.
